Namaakii Bee Bear Hat
Namaakii Bee Bear Hat is a Mohkinstsis based artist, whose Blackfoot and Cree/Dane-zaa ancestors have lived on the lands that are now part of Treaty 7 and 8, for many millennia. Her work explores this cultural lineage through installation, photography, text and collage.
With wanting to reclaim identity, Namaakii Bee Bear Hat, recently changed their name from Brittney Bear Hat, giving priority to her Indigenous name Namaakii meaning Single Woman in Blackfoot. This name was given to her at a young age and she is now ready to make room for the importance of this gift.
